One of my long time friends posted a note on Facebook the other day that got me thinking. She stated that her daughter who is away at school had called to say they had a scare. The place where they were staying is properly equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. She said that the alarm went off and they contacted the landlord and he said that maybe the battery just needed to be replaced. They did that and still the alarm was going off. 911 was called and they all left the building, and were told that they could not go back into the building as the carbon monoxide levels were to high. Imagine what would have happened, if they would have just ignored the alarm or disabled it so it would stop sounding or worse yet if there was no alarm at all. It could have been very tragic.

Minnesota law states" Every single family dwelling and every dwelling unit in a multifamily dwelling must have an approved and operational carbon monoxide alarm installed within ten feet of each room lawfully used for sleeping purposes."

If you don't have the detectors get them installed or put them in yourself. Check your smoke detectors out too. If they are really old they may need to be replaced. And when we come up to the first Sunday in November and change the clocks back to standard time, that's a good time replace the batteries in your detectors.  And have your furnace checked out so you know it's operating properly. Follow these simple guidelines and the life or lives you save might be your own and the ones of those you love.
