The Faribault Falcon football team is going back to Rochester Saturday to finish their game with the John Marshall Rockets in their season opener.  John Marshall started the game trying an onside kick, but it didn't go the necessary 10 yards so the Falcons started at the JM 48 and ran 8 plays before turning the ball over on downs.  The unofficial POWER 96 stats had Faribault amassing 96 total yards in the first quarter to John Marshall's 12.  Despite that total dominance the first quarter ended scoreless.  Faribault moved the football between the 20's but couldn't punch it in until a Rocket penalty gave them a first down inside the 10 yard line of JM and Senior Joe Hoisington punched it in from 7 yards out, but couldn't convert the two point conversion.  The score came with 5:08 to go in the first half.  On the kickoff following the TD John Marshall had a great run back to near midfield and after a facemask penalty placed the ball at the Falcon 36 officials saw lightning and by High School League rules had to stop play.  The lightning showed no signs of letting up and it was agreed the game would resume at noon Saturday and we'll have the rest of the contest on POWER 96 Radio 95.9FM.  The game will resume with 4:43 to go until halftime and the Falcons up 6-0.  Faribault's second drive was also impressive starting at their 24 and again sputtering at the red zone after 9 plays.  At times the rain came down very hard.  The field will probably be like a pig pen when play resumes at Rocket Stadium.  If you can't listen on POWER 96 Radio, 95.9FM there are other options.  Via the internet at power96radio.com or on your favorite mobile device by downloading the free app Radio Pup.  Of course that makes listening available at the stadium too.  We will resume action at noon Saturday.
