Before Tuesday night's volleyball match in Owatonna, Faribault Head Coach Damian Fox told POWER 96 his team was ready to see where they stack up against one of the best teams in the Big Nine.  Coach Fox called the match a barometer game and the barometer is going up for Faribault and sunshine is on the horizon.  Faribault dropped a tough first set 25-22 before reeling off three consecutive wins of 25-21, 25-15 and 27-25.  The fourth set saw Owatonna pick up momentum and it looked like the match was destined for a fifth set before Faribault rallied.  Owatonna had a set point but couldn't put away the Falcons who captured the victory on their second match point.  On a night when Junior setter Jenna Wetzel went down with a leg injury in the second set, Faribault pressed Sophmore Kayce Kosanda into duty and Kept setter Renata Erickson in to play all around and run the offense.  Libero Haley Langeslag had a couple of eye popping digs in the match and joined Kosanda, Erickson, Katie Ernste,  Maddie Carlander and freshman Grace Amacher as our Faribault State Farm players of the match.  Amacher tallied 4 ace serves on the night as the Falcons beat the Huskies at their own game.  Strong serving has always been Owatonna's forte and they finished the night with 4 aces while Faribault collected 6.  The Falcons have now won six straight conference matches and travel to Winona Thursday night while the Huskies host Northfield.  Meanwhile the Bethlehem Academy Cardinals fell in five sets to a very good St. Michael Albertville team on the road.  SMA won the first two sets handily 25-15, 25-14 before the Cardinals rallied to win the next two 25-22, 25-23.  SMA then won the fifth set 17-15. We'll have the Cardinals Thursday match in Wells against United South Central on KDHL Radio in their new gym.
