Falcon Swimmers and Divers Poised to Make Noise at State

The Faribault Falcon girls swimming and diving team has a very good chance to bring home some hardware from the state meet this week at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The diving is always strong for Faribault, and this year seniors Taryn Longshore and Sophia Steinberg are in the top four in scores heading into the Class A portion of the state tournament.

Junior Bre Bresnahan has the third-fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Bresnahan also swam the 12th-fastest 50 free.

Junior Megan Gehrke turned in the fifth-fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle and sixth-fastest in the 50-yard freestyle.

Eighth-grader Abby Larson registered the eighth-fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle and also qualified in the 500-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard free relay team from Faribault has the fifth-fastest time and the 400 free relay is 11th.

Northfield also has a number of qualifiers, including seniors Sophia Nevin and Carrin Baker in multiple events. Both are competing in the 200-yard individual medley.

Nevin has turned in the fastest time in Class A in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Eighth-grader Ellen Varley competes in the 50 freestyle and Northfield freshmen Alice Zhang in the 100-yard butterfly, and Chloe Mellgren in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Northfield 400 free relay is in the same preliminary heat as the Falcons and they are scheduled to be next to each other in the pool lanes.

The Faribault 400 free relay has the 11th-fastest time and Northfield 17th. They are in lanes six and seven and the Winona Winhawkas are also in that heat in the very fast University of Minnesota Aquatic Center pool.

Faribault's 200 free relay turned in the fifth-fastest time and Northfield the 10th-fastest time and will also compete against each other.

Class A diving preliminaries are at noon Wednesday with public ticket sales at 11AM. Class AA diving preliminaries are at 6PM Wednesday with public ticket sales at 5PM.

Class A swimming oreliminaries are Thursday at Noon with public ticket sales at 10:30AM. Class AA swimming preliminaries are Thursday at 6PM with public ticket sales at 4:30PM.

Friday Class A swimming and diving finals are at noon and the Class AA swimming and diving finals are at 6PM.
