Falcon Girls Hockey Keeps Winning

The Faribault Falcons girls hockey team is not included in the latest Let's Play Hockey Class A girls hockey poll.

They have just one loss on the season (to state-ranked Owatonna 2-0) and tied another state-ranked team (New Ulm) but evidently an 11-1-2 record is not good enough for the Let's Play Hockey pollsters.

Apparently winning is not the top criteria.

Senior goalie Lauren Werner leads the Big Nine with nine wins, and her save percentage of .953 is incredible.

Backup Camryn Salmonsen has a save percentage of .908.

Werner has allowed just 14 goals in 11 games (1.27 GAA)  and has three shutouts.

The Falcons have no player in the top five in scoring in the conference but six players have double-digit points.

Saturday sophomore Payton Putrah achieved her 10th assist of the season to go along with a team-leading 11 goals.

Classmate Allyson McCoshen collected her third goal of the year to go along with a team-leading 11 assists.

After Saturday's 1-0 overtime win over Rochester Mayo, Faribault is averaging 35.7 shots on goal to their opponents' 27.4.

Their power play is just over 17 percent and their penalty kill around 87 percent.

Not eye-popping numbers by any means, but the top number any way you slice it is wins, and Faribault has victories in all but one game they've played this season.
