Faribault Falcon girls basketball coach Bill Bardal told KDHL following their 42-39 win over Cambridge-Isanti on Saturday he didn't know the last time the team had scored back-to-back victories.

What seemed to please Bardal most was the fact his team won despite not playing very well.

"A year ago this team would not have come from behind late to win." Bardal added, and said it was a good sign of positive things to come.

Faribault started the game on fire with a 7-0 run and, after seven lead changes in the first half, the Falcons had a 19-18 lead at halftime.

The free throw line was definitely the difference in the game and it was a very physical contest.

The Falcons were 15 of 24 and the Bluejackets 11 of 18 from the charity stripe.

Our State Farm Agents Tony Langerud and Jason Krohn Faribault players of the game were Grace Amacher and Ellery Akemann with 11 points each to pace the Falcon scoring, and Rachel Hanson.

Akemann also nailed a three-pointer late in the game to give her team the lead back and Amacher was six for six from the free throw line down the stretch.

Hanson had no points in the game and was chosen for one big steal with seconds left that helped seal the win.

As Hanson stole the ball, Bardal asked the official for a time out. Hanson was called for traveling after the steal. Bardal was granted the time out, negating the traveling call, and the Falcons went on to win.

One of the other keys to victory was turnovers. Faribault had just 12 in the game while Cambridge-Isanti committed 14. Points off turnovers were 13 for Faribault and 10 for the Bluejackets.

After shooting 5 for 11 from the free throw line in the first half, the Falcons went 10 of 13 in the second half.

Faribault shot 20 percent for the game and still won.

The win came a night after the Falcons crushed Albert Lea 63-29.

The schedule gets much stiffer this week, with games Tuesday at Owatonna and Friday in Winona.
