The Faribault Falcons girls basketball team posted their highest point total of the season in a 67-32 dominance of Albert Lea on Saturday night.

What had to please head coach Bill Bardal most was the fact that five players scored in double figures.

Faribault was led by 6-foot-0 sophomore Megan Gehrke's season-high 15 points.

Gehrke played extended minutes because 6-foot-0 junior Elana Palmer was in foul trouble. Palmer still tallied 11 points along with senior Ellery Akemann.

Jenna Wetzel was lights out from three-point range, with four three-point baskets and 14 points and Grace Amacher had 10 points for Faribault.

The Falcons have scored 60 or more points now four times this season (twice against Albert Lea) also Rockford and Mankato West.

Faribault has lost only once this season when scoring over 50 points (57-54 to Rochester Century).

The Falcons have the second-best defense in the Big Nine in terms of points allowed per game, giving up just 45.8 points per contest.

League leading Rochester Mayo has the best defense (36.7).

Faribault's offense, however, ranks second from the bottom in points scored per game (47.4). Only Albert Lea averages less points per game at 35.6.

Yet with Saturday night's win Faribault is now 7-7 overall on the season and 4-7 in the Big Nine.

It was Albert Lea's fifth straight loss of the year and they drop to 0-11 in the league and 1-13 overall.

Our State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game courtesy of State Farm Agents Jason Krohn and Tony Langerud were Gehrke, Wetzel and Akemann.

Gehrke and Wetzel had nine points each in the first half to give Faribault a 33-18 halftime lead.

The Falcons host Red Wing on Tuesday and head to Austin on Friday. Our next broadcast will be Saturday at 1:45PM in New Ulm.

The Faribault boys took their frustration out on New Ulm in Nomeland Gym on Saturday afternoon 69-30.

Four Falcons were in double figures: Kade Hart 15, Joe Jackson 12, Brady Combs 10 and Win Hunter 10.

Faribault is 9-6 overall and will be in Red Wing to tangle with the unbeaten and Big Nine leading Red Wing Wingers on Tuesday.
