Heading into the third period of Thursday night's Section 1A hockey playoff game between Faribault and Lesueur-Henderson/St. Peter/Tri-City United/Cleveland, it was looking bleak for the home team. The Bulldogs were up 3-1 and were clearly dominating control of the puck. The Falcons didn't say die though, and persevered with a 4-3 overtime win at the Faribault Ice Arena. Chase Lewis scored two third-period goals to tie the game and then Austin Dickey got the game winner 5:01 into the eight-minute overtime. During the game it was announced senior Trevor Vos tallied the game-winner, but after the game, officials changed the crediting of the goal to Dickey.

LH/St.Peter/TCU/C took a 1-0 lead with a power play goal by Avery Bachmann, assisted by Sam Werner, 9:41 into the game. That was the score after one period, with the Bulldogs out-shooting Faribault 17-10.

Tyler Becker got Faribault's first goal, assisted by Lewis, in the second period. Also in the second period, senior Sam Wenner, the state's leading scorer, tallied a goal assisted by Sam Gerdts. Thirty seconds later, the Bulldogs answered with Nathaniel Werner scoring off an assist by Sam Werner and Brendan Pelowski, and after two periods it was 3-1 Bulldogs.

In the third, Lewis got a power play goal assisted by Christian Von Ruden and Ryan Teske and collected a shorthanded goal assisted by Koy Payne.

The Bulldogs out-shot Faribault 40-37 in the game. There were nine penalties called in the game, with Faribault collecting five of them.

Our State Farm Faribault agents Faribault players of the game were Lewis, Vos, Dicky and goalie Adam Johannsen. The Falcons now head to Rochester on Saturday to play in the semifinals against top-seeded New Prague at 5:30 p.m. Roy Koenig will have the call on Power 96.

New Prague edged Rochester Lourdes 2-1, Northfield dominated Red Wing 4-1 and Mankato West needed double overtime to defeat Albert Lea 2-1.  Northfield and Mankato West collide at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center.
