The Mankato West Scarlets came into Friday's game with the Faribault Falcons ranked fifth in the latest Class 3A coaches pol.

They showed why in a 10-0 win in five innings at Bell Field.

Mankato West sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and in 22 minutes scored eight runs on nine hits and took advantage of one Faribault error.

Falcon junior Colton Helgeson went the distance, throwing 105 total pitches, 68 were strikes. Helgeson registered no strike-outs and one walk while giving up 14 hits. The right hander threw 50 pitches in the first inning, 32 for strikes.

Junior Evan Furst started on the hill for Mankato West and allowed just two hits before leaving the game after four innings of work.

Furst threw 55 pitches, 40 for strikes, and fanned seven Falcon batters while walking one and hitting a batter.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance Agents Faribault player of the game was Dylan O'Neil, who also provided the Basilleo's Pizza delivery of the game in the third inning.

With two outs, O'Neil laid down a perfect bunt to break up Furst's no-hitter. The sophomore would also wait nicely on a curve in the fifth inning to collect his second hit and did a nice job behind the plate for Faribault.

Sophomore Austin Rendler collected the Falcons' only other hit of the game with a single in the fourth inning.

Mankato West remains unbeaten on the season at 6-0 and is atop the Big Nine with a 4-0 mark. Four Scarlets had multi-hit games for their team. Mankato West came into the game with an impressive team batting average of .371 and their opponents were hitting .269. The Scarlets also have outscored their opponents 60-23 through six games.

Faribault drops to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Faribault hosts Red Wing in a makeup game on Monday.
