Roger Steinkamp, the executive director of Farmamerica, stopped by KDHL studios for today's AM Minnesota program. Farmamerica is Minnesota's Agricultural Interpretive Center, located just west of Waseca. Farmamerica was established by the Minnesota Legislature in the 1970s to tell the story of agriculture past, present and future.

Farmamerica is a nonprofit 501(c3), which means any contributions are deductible from your income taxes. It is fun to talk with Roger about all the events and activities going on at Farmamerica. One of their biggest of the year is coming up this weekend, the Fall Fair.

The Fall Fair will be Saturday and Sunday from 10AM to 4PM both days. The Sheriffs Posse Wagon Train and Antique Tractor Pull are on Saturday. The Peddlers Grove tent city will be there both days with demonstrations of the pioneer settlers. The Agriculture One-Mile Time Lane is really something. You start out with a native prairie like the settlers saw in the 1850s. Then an 1850s settlement farm, country church, one-room schoolhouse, 1930s dairy farm, blacksmith shop, feed store and the Agri-Hall with antique tractors, and finally a modern farm site. The best part is there are volunteer interpreters to explain the life of that time.

For more information, go to the Farmamerica website. By the way, the cost is just $1!
