Additional Information

Make the Steele County Historical Society’s Extravaganza your destination Sunday, July 12,for a family fun day, featuring re-enacted Old West shootouts and scenarios, old-time hand crafts, musical entertainment, an antique tractor show, wool spinning, printing, basket weaving, wood working demonstrations, clothes washing demonstrations, leatherworking, face painting with Brandy Wilker, Steve Hansen returning as Digger to reprise his role, and more. Also returning this year, visit with Larry Richie as he teaches you how bricks were made for early construction. Children will get a chance to actually make a brick to take home. New this year: Re-enactors will be portraying American fur-traders from the late 1700s to the early 1800s.  Mountain men, Voyageurs and Native Americans gathered once a year to trade goods at an event called a Rendezvous. A "temporary town" was set up to accommodate for the majority of deal making and trading. See re-enactors dressed in period correct clothing and displaying their wares of how they would have lived then. Come listen and learn about a way of life in early time.

Throughout the day have your fill of Sloppy Joe’s, locally-made brats, pork burgers, ice cream, cake, old-fashioned soda floats, kolaches and other tasty treats. Games and crafts for kids will be offered in the school house and yard by our local Girl Scout Troops.

Vintage Baseball returns, with the game being played at 3PM. Watch the Rochester Roosters take on the Owatonna Owls in an authentic game, circa 1860. Cheer on our local players. We are looking for more participants, so if you’re interested in playing, please call Jerry Besser at 451-5196 by July 8.

Enjoy the 12thannual Antique Tractor Show with a parade of tractors, “slow race,” and skills driving contests, and the opportunity to vote for your favorite tractor. (If you are interested in displaying your tractor please call our office at 451-1420). The Tractor Parade will be featured at 2:30.

Extravaganza features a full day of entertainment for you to enjoy. The Cannon Old West Society will be performing throughout the day with wild-west action and scenarios. Returning favorites, Dunnell Lenort and the KC Men’s Choir will all be back for your listening pleasure, along with the Adam Lindquist in his portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt and the Sunday Punch Quartet.
