Harvest and fall tillage has pretty well come to an end in our area. Virtually all the crop has been harvested and any fall tillage that farmers wanted to do has been done. Although I did talk to a farmer by Lonsdale about 10 days ago who said they had gotten so much rain it was too wet for any tillage. This late in the season it is unlikely that it will dry enough for any more fieldwork. The average high temperature is only about 34 degrees. Plus the day length has gotten short and there is just not a lot of time for sunshine to dry the fields.

There may be a chance to get some tillage done yet this fall if it gets cold before we get any snow. When the ground starts to freeze on top you will be able to get traction to pull a disk ripper. That is you will be able to pull the ripper until the ground freezes too hard! The fall is such a hectic time we often do not stop to enjoy the beauty right if front of us. One evening I had shut the combine down and was walking over to the truck. I glanced to the west and saw this sunset. You don't see a sunset like this in a big city!
