Ellendale Man Dies On Slippery Road

A Ellendale man was killed in a single vehicle accident Wednesday morning on an icy stretch of roadway in southeastern Minnesota.  The State Patrol reported 76 year old Marvin Widlund was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 38 year old Sarah Kerns of Geneva.  According to the State Patrol report Widlund was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:31 Wednesday morning.  Another passenger in the Sterns vehicle, 76 year old Ruth Widlund also of Ellendale suffered a non life threatening injury and was transported to the Mayo facility in Austin for treatment of her injuries.  The State Patrol report notes she was wearing a seat belt.  Kerns was not injured and was also wearing a seat belt.  The Patrol’s description simply states Kern was “travelling eastbound on Highway 30 and lost control on ice, sliding sideways through the intersection and then rolling.”
