Eden Prairie Wins 11th State Football Title

The Eden Prairie Eagles flew to a 38-17 win over the Minnetonka Skippers for their state-best 11th state championship.

Eden Prairie had a 24-17 lead at the half and it didn't look like the score would be that close.

Minnetonka junior quarterback Aaron Syverson heaved the ball toward the end zone with no time left on the clock and junior receiver Jackson Owens came down with the ball to give Minnetonka some momentum going into the half.

Syverson was 23 of 33 for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

Minnetonka could not do much in the running game with just 26 yards rushing.

Eden Prairie had 262 yards on the ground and added 85 through the air.

The Eagles were led by senior Solo Falaniko with 22 carries for 90 yards.

Falaniko ran for a score and kicked a 42 yard field goal in the game.

The total yardage in the game was 347 for Eden Prairie and 297 for Minnetonka.

The Eagles were 5 of 9 in third down conversions and the Skippers 4 of 11.

Eden Prairie was runner-up to Totino-Grace last season and last won a title in 2014.
