Last week there was some good news for Dundas and Northfield residents along with the surrounding communities as it was announced that part of the old Kmart building may soon be turned into a movie theater.

I was glad to hear that this building would be repurposed so quickly after its closing last spring. As of right now it'll escape the fate of the old Kmart building in Faribault that sat vacant for several years before finally being demolished.

The Northfield area has been without a cinema for just over eight years, and this reportedly 10-screen complex will be a welcome form of entertainment and a shorter drive than going to Lakeville and a nice alternative to Owatonna's fine theater. Like Owatonna, Northfield offers plenty of dining venues to make for a great date night of a dinner and a movie. The building would supposedly be redeveloped to be home to several other tenants along with Sears, which is currently on the north end of the building.

I look forward to seeing how this all plays out over the next few months and plan on being one of the first people in line when, hopefully, this new theater opens.
