Dr. Clinton Muench of the Faribault Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic is in the KDHL studio today to talk about hip and knee replacements. If you have a question you would like answered, just text it to (507) 838-5233 and I'll ask it.

The knee is the largest joint in the body and having healthy knees is required to perform most everyday activities. Muench specializes in arthroscopy.

According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons website, total knee replacements are one of the most successful surgical procedures in all of medicine. Knee replacement surgery was first performed in 1968 and the procedure has improved immensely over the years. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, more than 600,000 knee replacements are performed each year in the United States.

The most common cause of chronic knee pain is arthritis. Three types of arthritis are usually the culprit: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and post-traumatic arthritis.

AM Minnesota is at 9:30AM.
