The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently added more cameras along Interstate 35 between Owatonna and Ellendale in Steele County in an effort to provide more real-time views of road conditions during weather events and heavy traffic times.

In a news release from MnDOT, travel information supervisor Kelly Braunig stated, "The Minnesota 511 traveler information system is a great tool for motorists to use before they travel to see current road conditions, updates on weather or traffic impacts, MnDOT work zones and more. These new camera views will offer more options to help motorists make the best decision for their travel."

Drivers can access the system online at 511mn.org or on a free mobile app at mn511. The recent expansion also included adding cameras on Interstate 90 in southeast Minnesota. New cameras will be going up along Highway 52 between Zumbrota and Oronoco this coming summer.

The Department of Transportation operates over 1,000 cameras across the state. Minnesota has had its traveler information system since 2002 and was one of the first states to do so.
