The deadline for updating your yields and base acres under the new Farm Bill is Friday, Feb. 27. It has been many years since farmers have had the opportunity to update this information. In some cases, your yields go back to the 1980s. It is likely that your average yields have been much higher the past few years than they were in the 1980s. Most farmers have had crop insurance, so all you have to do is use the production information you provided your crop insurance agent each year. Call your FSA office for an appointment to see if it is to your advantage to update your yield or base acres.
