I guess you could say what the market gives you it can take away. After being higher Thursday corn and soybeans closed lower today. Corn was down around 4 cents and soybeans lost 8 cents. We had friendly news to open with this morning as the USDA reported export sales for corn above expectations at 1.12 MMT. Soybeans had good sales to at 746,200 MT. Traders were closely watching for numbers coming from the USDA Outlook Forum. Today we saw the projected yields to go with the acres numbers released Thursday. The USDA used a projected yield for corn this year of 166.8 bushel an acre and soybeans 46 bushel an acre. Condensing all the projections on production and usage, the USDA is projecting carryover for corn at 1.687 billion bushel for the 2015-16 season. For soybeans the projected carryover is 430 million bushel. Those carryovers are not that "spooky" compared to some years. But still we were lower today? Maybe one of the factors was options expiration today. Many times you see some "game playing" that occurs on days when you have options expiration.
