Late August and September is the normal time of the year for plot tours sponsored by local seed dealers. It is fun to attend these as we anticipate the approaching harvest. Typically company agronomists and seed specialists are there to discuss the different corn hybrids and soybean varieties in the plot. They will also discuss the growing season and agronomic issues with weeds, diseases and insect pests. This was a plot tour at the Hanson farm by Nerstrand.

I will admit these plot tours are more then just education, they are a social event, too. It is an opportunity to talk with your neighbors before we get really busy with harvest. Many times you meet someone that you did not know. These are really special in a year like this one when it looks like there is a really great crop in the field. I will also admit the food and refreshments are great, too!
