No this is not my corn field, but one not far from my farm. This is showing the result of the past two years that were so wet. This is an area that drowned out the past two years. With no crop growing, these areas grew weeds, and a lot of them. I do have spots like this but was able to get a herbicide down to keep the weeds under control. This also points out that if you control all the weeds year after year, the weed population will, over time, be dramatically decreased. It also shows that if you let a few weeds go to seed it will haunt you for many years.

We knew that these areas were going to be a problem, but we could not prevent it. Sure we could have disked those areas to destroy the weeds last year or sprayed them later in the summer. The problem was you would have had to drive down and destroy the crop to get to the drowned-out spots in the field. These weedy areas are the result we will deal with for years to come.
