The winter meeting season has arrived! Well, it actually really gets going after the holidays, but there are a few meetings between the end of harvest and Christmas. One of those is the annual Conservation Tillage Conference next Tuesday and Wednesday in Willmar at the Best Western Plus Conference Center. It is jointly sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension and NDSU Extension Service. With low profit margins or losses there is more interest in conservation tillage because it can save $25 to $45 an acre in tillage costs, not including time.

The program is a nice cross section of researchers, experienced farmers, agronomists, economists and equipment manufacturers. Another plus of conservation tillage is decreased soil erosion and loss of crop nutrients. Notice in the picture all the corn residue on the soil surface. The cost of attending the Conservation Tillage Conference is just $155. Go to DigtheCTC.com for more details and to register.
