Congratulations to all the teams that made it to the state high school boys basketball tournament last week, and a special congratulations to all of the champions.

I especially want to congratulate the DeLaSalle Islanders on winning their fourth championship in a row. I went to high school at Totino-Grace in late '70s. Our conference was the Don Bosco conference, made up of Catholic high schools around the Twin Cities.

In basketball, DeLaSalle was our archrival for a while. The gym would be packed, it would be a close game, coaches' tempers would be hot, it would be noisy and a great game to watch. Sometimes kids would scuff it up in the parking lot afterward. But that's what a big rivalry game was all about, and as much as it was a headache for the teachers on hand, for us students it was fun.

Congratulations again, Coach Thorson, and to your entire staff and team as well. I have no doubt you'll be back again in the tournament soon.
