Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A St. Paul man has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault for allegedly shooting and wounding a school bus driver during an apparent road-rage incident on I-35W in Minneapolis earlier this week.

A statement issued by Hennepin County Atty. Mike Freeman indicates the shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon following a minor traffic crash. Just before the shooting, the bus had scraped the side of a car while the bus driver was attempting to merge onto the freeway.

The criminal complaint says the driver of that vehicle, 31-year-old Kenneth Lilly, responded by stopping his car in the traffic lane and trying to board the bus. After he was told he would not be allowed to enter because a child was inside, Lilly allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired into the windshield as the bus driver was attempting to drive away.

The bus driver, who was not aware he had collided with Lilly’s car, suffered a gunshot wound on his arm and a graze wound on his head. The child at the rear of the bus was not harmed. After the shooting, Lilly made a 911 call to report the incident and claimed he fired his gun because he feared for his safety.

Preliminary bail for Lilly, who is scheduled to make his first court appearance tomorrow, has been set at $500,000.
