The Faribault Area Senior Center expansion project is progressing nicely, according to organizers.

Wednesday night about three dozen people were invited to the Vintage Ballroom in downtown Faribault to learn more about the status of the Celebrating Seniors fundraiser.

Campaign co-chairman Todd Markman, Senior Center Executive Director Mona Kaiser and Crescendo Consulting LLP representative Ellen Hongerholt made brief presentations to those in attendance.

Kaiser told KDHL after the gathering that 320 people have contributed $950,000 toward the $2.1 million campaign.

Kaiser emphasized while the Senior Center is paying for the building and the city is providing the land, the facility will be multigenerational. The City of Faribault will use the space for programs after 4PM on weekdays and weekends.

The 11,000-square-foot expansion will include:

  • A larger socialization area
  • Fitness area for senior-friendly exercise classes
  • Private meeting and consultation room
  • Personal care space
  • Improved technology

The fitness area will include Yoga for Seniors, Bone Builders and Tai Chi, to name a few of the exercise programs.

The new main entrance to the building will include an easy-to-use automatic door. A canopy will cover the front sidewalk with the door a short distance from a car or bus drop-off area and the entrance will be off a side street and not a main thoroughfare.

The three dozen people in attendance were asked to assist the campaign organizers by asking for pledges from friends and neighbors in Faribault.

Contributions to the Celebrating Seniors Capital Campaign are tax deductible. The Faribault Area Senior Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
