On Tuesday afternoon I finally got out to the farm. It had been about 3 weeks since I have had time to get out there. It is nice to have Dad and my Agronomist to keep an eye on the crops when I get busy
For me the "official" start of the Minnesota State Fair is the Princess Kay of the Milky Way Coronation. It is held the Wednesday evening before the start of the Fair on Thursday. In the picture is M C Rod Johnson who was the Farm Broadcaster at KDHL a few years before I started
I was asked again this year to be one of the announcers at the Minnesota State Fair 4-H Swine Show. It's always nice to help out a great youth program like 4-H. In the picture is the judge trying to figure out how to place this class of gilts
There was a large crowd at the Steele County Free Fair 4-H Livestock Auction Saturday morning in the Swine Show Arena. Business and individuals were there to support the 4-H program in Steele County. A portion of the money goes to the 4-H Foundation that benefits all the 4-H members in Steele County
There was a big crowd at Jim Purfeerst's farm this morning. Jim said they were hoping for maybe 50 and they had more than 160 people there. Farmers are concerned about soil erosion! Because of the heavy rains the last two years we have seen a lot of soil erosion
It was a great day at Farmfest! In the pictures, are examples of the work that in this case a seed company puts into their display at Farmfest. I believe it is by far the largest outdoor farm show in the upper Midwest
The Rice County Fair Board came up with a new idea this year. They thought it would be fun to have a lawn mower race between myself and Rice County Sherriff Troy Dunn. It was a warm up to the real lawn mower races in the Grandstand
While I was over at the Waseca County Fair I saw the Waseca County 4-H came up with a new use for round bales of hay. Pretty unique way of promoting 4-H at their County Fair. Those 4-H members can be very creative!!!
This is a picture of Crater Lake located about an hour and a half from Medford Oregon where we were staying. It was the bluest water I have ever seen. This mountain used to be over 12,000 feet until the last major eruption 7,700 years ago
I did not notice this art at the Sacramento airport when we got in on Wednesday. Guess I was a little tired. But I did notice it Thursday when we went back to pick up Stephen. Looks like a good use of old suitcases to draw attention to the baggage claim area
