Cannon Falls Will Have Rematch with Rochester Lourdes

The No. 4 and No. 5 seed Rochester Lourdes Eagles and Cannon Falls Bombers boys basketball teams will square off Monday night at the Mayo Civic Center Arena in Rochester.

Both teams advanced in the Section 1AA playoffs with home victories over their opponents. Cannon Falls defeated La Crescent and Rochester Lourdes got by Dover-Eyota.

Cannon Falls improved to 16-11 with a 64-46 win over No. 12 seed La Crescent in the Bombers' Hangar on Thursday night while the Eagles beat No. 13 seed Dover-Eyota 42-35.

Cannon Falls led 31-23 at the half thanks in large part to a 26-16 advantage in the Cannon Ace Hardware and Rental paint. Senior Tanner Carlson led the way with 11 first-half points and finished the game with 18. Seniors Dylan Dierkz had 11 and Tyler Banks 10 for the Bombers.

The Lancers were led by senior Luke Fechner with 10 points and junior Jason Gruholdt had 9.

La Crescent was 8 of 15 and Cannon Falls 4 of 8 from the free throw line. The final Cannon Falls Ace Hardware and Rental points in the paint tally was 42 for Cannon Falls and 32 for La Crescent.

Cannon Falls and Rochester Lourdes split during the regular season with the Eagles winning 50-42 in Rochester while the Bombers scored a 60-59 win in the Hangar just last Friday.

Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson told KDHL his team is peaking at the right time and has the confidence and the experience to go on a tournament run.

Section 1AA just might be the toughest section in the state in Class AA with three state-ranked teams: Caledonia, Lake City and St. Charles.

Cannon Falls and Rochester Lourdes play Monday night at 7:30PM in the Mayo Civic Arena.
