The Medford Tigers entered Monday night's match in Cannon Falls with a nine-match win streak.

Cannon Falls swept Medford for their 10th win of the season after going 2-4 in the Class 2A Volleyball Showcase Tournament in Burnsville over the weekend.

Bombers head coach Melissa Huseth told Power 96 before the match that her team played well in Burnsville despite their tournament record and the competition will only make her team better in the end.

Medford led much of the first set and it was tied at 17. After that Cannon Falls kicked into another gear and downed the Tigers 25-18.

In the second set, the Bombers cruised to a 6-0 lead only to see the Tigers claw back and take the lead at 12-11.

Cannon Falls would prevail again 25-21.

The third set was dominated by the home team in the hangar with a number of Bombers reserves playing; they won 25-17.

Medford didn't seem to have any answer for senior Katie Noble's slide efforts. Any time the Bombers needed a key point they would go to the slide with Noble.

Sophomore Chase Shaefer also had a good match for Cannon Falls at the net and setter Haily Huseth made some very nice sets to hitters on the move and saved some overpasses on the night. One time in particular, she saved the ball from going over the net and at the same time made a perfect one-handed set to Schaefer for a kill.

It was only Medford's fifth loss this season and all losses have been to good teams. Their junior libero Callie Nagel was impressive. I enjoy watching liberos who don't leave their feet all the time and are able to move side to side to pick up balls and make accurate passes off them.

Junior setter Dani Morgan also did a nice job making sets off a few errant passes and scrambling to balls and making sets off them.

In the end, Cannon Falls finished by my tally with 10 ace serves and five service errors.

Cannon Falls sophomore libero Tatum Pickar and sophomore setter Kara Loeschke led the way with three each and Hailey Huseth and Katie Noble had two each.

Medford tallied two ace serves and three service errors. Medford fell to 13-5 and Cannon Falls improved their record to 10-8 on the season.

Cannon Falls heads to Triton on Tuesday night while Medford is off until next Tuesday when they go to Byron.
