On Saturday, April 22, the Faribault Diversity Coalition will be celebrating the Cambodian New Year at the Faribault Knights of Columbus. All are invited to attend this celebration.

The event will celebrate Cambodian heritage and will be from 7PM to midnight at the Faribault Knights of Columbus Hall at 17 Third St. N.E., Faribault. Appetizers and beverages will be available. The evening includes classic folk dance, scarf dance, and special performances.

The Faribault Diversity Coalition began in 1995 with the goals of greeting new residents to the community as well as celebrating diversity. In the early ’80s, Minnesota saw an increase of Cambodian refugees, some of whom made Faribault their home. As of the 2010 census, there are 9,543 Cambonians living within Minnesota.

According to the Faribault Diversity Coalition website, "Faribault Diversity Coalition is organized to promote inclusive civic engagement where all are welcome and respected, and to work with new residents to mentor them in the life skills needed to become active and integrated participants in the Faribault community. The purpose of the FDC is to promote and enhance cross cultural communications so that Faribault residents have the opportunity to come together and learn from one another."
