The Caledonia Warriors are the top seed in the 16-team Section 1AA Tournament, which opens Thursday night at the high seeds.

No. 16 Kenyon-Wanamingo gets to make the long trip to Caledonia.

The coaches in the section agreed to try seeds of the 16 teams and no longer have the geographically based east and west subsections.

That will make for some long travels and quite possibly some very lopsided games, but a majority of the coaches apparently believe this way the best teams will get to the finals.

They said previously the best teams may have been in the same subsection and this way they hope for more exciting games in the finals and semifinals.

Hiawatha Valley League Gold Division champion Lake City is the No. 2 seed and sees Chatfield travel to their gym.

No. 3 seed St. Charles hosts No. 14 Winona Cotter. No. 4 Rochester Lourdes entertains No. 13 Dover-Eyota. No. 5 Cannon Falls has No. 12 La Crescent make the trip to Cannon Falls. No. 6 Hayfield hosts No. 11 Zumbrota-Mazeppa. No. 7 Pine Island has a home game against No. 10 Plainview-Elgin-Millville. No. 8 Lewiston-Altura hosts No. 9 Triton.

The quarterfinals are played at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center Arena on Monday and Tuesday, February 22 and 23. The top bracket plays Monday and the bottom bracket Tuesday.

The semifinals are Saturday, February 27, at 5 PM and 8PM in the Auditorium and the title game will be March 3 at 8PM in the Arena.

The girls are also seeding all 16 teams in Section 1AA.
