The Caledonia Warriors scored 28 points before some people got settled into their seats to watch the game today.

They literally ran away from Cannon Falls 89-62.

Cannon Falls did make a run to whittle a 20 point deficit (31-11) down to 12 with about six minutes to go in the half.

However I thought at that point they should have taken more time with their possessions in hopes of getting the game to a manageable contest at the half.

The Caledonia Warriors led the Cannon Falls Bombers 46-28 at the half and there would be no second-half runs.

The Keith Meyers Financial statistic of the game was the Cannon Ace Hardware and Rental points in the paint: Caledonia 50 and Cannon Falls 22.

The Bombers also had to sit two starters in foul trouble for a stretch in the first half: their leading scorer, Tanner Carlson, and top hustle artist, Kyler Banks.

Five-foot-10 senior Dylan Dirckx hit two big threes during the Bomber run and finished with four three-point baskets and 19 points.

Six-foot-1 senior Kyler Banks collected 14 and 6-foot-1 senior Tanner Carlson had 11.

Caledonia dominated on the glass and beat the Bombers up in the lane, attacking the basket at will.

Cannon Falls did get to the free throw line, cashing in on 19 of 26 attempts.

The Bombers conclude their season with a 17-12 record and for the third straight year lose in the subsection final.

All of us along press row were perplexed when they brought a table out for trophy presentations.

Section 1AA went to seeding the 16 teams in the tournament this year so when they announced Cannon Falls would be receiving the second place medals and trophy you can understand why we were a bit bewildered.

One of the section officials told me after the game when the coaches requested to seed the tournament one through 16 they also wanted to keep the subsection format.

I said so they wanted to have their cake and eat it too and he laughed while saying, "you could say that."

The top bracket of eight teams was Sub 1 and the No. 2 seed bottom bracket Sub 2.

So Cannon Falls received second-place individual medals and a second-place trophy and Caledonia individual championship medals and a Sub One title trophy.
