It was a busy and fun day at the Minnesota State Fair. For a number of years I have been asked to be one of the announcers for the 4-H hog show. I would call the different classes to the staging area and announce the lineup in each class. Being an old dairy cattle showman, it is hard to get used to the hog show. In a cattle show, each animal has a halter on and is led around the ring. The class is placed in a nice neat row in the middle of the ring.

A hog show is called a "drive" because 4-H members have a small stick and touch the pig to get them to move the direction they want them to go. At times the pigs will run around the ring with the 4-H member trailing behind trying to get the pig back under control. The pigs are driven from their pens into the show ring right down the isles with the people visiting the swine barn. Everything went fine, no pigs were running around the state fair grounds and no visitors were hurt, but it still looks unorganized to me!
