The Faribault Falcons and Bethlehem Academy Cardinals girls basketball teams were both on the road for their season openers Tuesday.  Both ended up falling to their opponents.  Mankato East defeated Faribault 68-42 and Cleveland Skipped past Bethlehem Academy 66-52.

There were some surprises opening night.  For example Lake City started their H-V-L season with a win over Zumbrota-Mazeppa in Lake City 56-49.  Cougar junior Ali Hunstad had 22 points but the Tigers had four players in double figures and scored 7 more points at the free throw line.  Hopkins crushed Lakeville North 83-41.  The Hopkins win is not a surprise, the margin of victory is.

It rained three point baskets in New Richland with the NRHEG Panthers defeating Kenyon-Wanamingo 67-64.  The difference in the game was free throws.  The Panthers were 5 of 6 and the Knights 0 for 1.  NRHEG had 14 three point baskets and K-W 11.  Junior Riley Dummer led the Knights with 25 points, 5 three point baskets.  Junior Julianna Boyum added 17 points and 3 three pointers.  For the Panthers Olivia Christopherson tallied 23 points with 5 three point baskets, Sydney Schultz had 19 points and 5 three point baskets and Sophie Stork added 15 points and 3 threes.  The Knights led 36-33 at the half.

Kasson-Mantorville had their way with Albert Lea 83-30, leading 52-13 at halftime.  Bailey Berge led the KoMets with 21 points, 4 three point baskets, Ashley Bigelow added 10 points.

Goodhue defeated Hayfield 50-31 in Hayfield in the Vikings season opener.  The Wildcats are 2-1 following the victory.  Arianna Thomforde was the only Wildcat in double figures with 10 points.  Hayfield was led by Abby Stasko with 10 points.  Goodhue was up 26-16 at the half.
