The Carleton Knighs open their 2014 season at Macalester College in St. Paul this Saturday in the Book of Knowledge game.  Once again POWER 96 Radio will be your spot on the dial for Knights football.  The program has seen steady progress under Head Coach Bob Pagel with the Knights completing their best finish in 5 seasons last year going 5-5 overall and 3-5 in the MIAC.  Carleton will be looking for their 12th straight win over Macalester this Saturday.  Last year they ran over the Scots 56-17 while amassing 296 yards on the ground and 461 total yards. Five Macaleser turnovers were a big factor in the lopsided win.  Three offensive linemen return as starters on that side of the ball meaning the Knights will be replacing starters at the running back and receiver positions as well as quarterback.  5 defensive starters also return this season. A freshman and two sophmores are listed as the quarterbacks on the team.  Zach Creighton (6-1 188 So. Lakeville North)  did see some action last season.  The other QB's include Ethan Trujillo (6'0 185 So. Brighton, Col.) and Bennett Cazayoux (5'11 199 Fr. Charlotte, Vt.) .  Chris Madden (5'8 167 So. Kenosha, Wi.) was second on the team in all-purpose yards, rushing yards and receptions.  The Knights will have an entirely new receiving corps.  Coach Pagel and his staff hit the recruiting trail hard with 23 freshmen on this year's  team.  Carleton has a number of new assistant coaches also.  Again this season tune in 12:30pm every Saturday for the Carleton Coaches show.  We feature an interview with one of the coaches of other sports at Carleton before the Knights of the Rondtable pre-game with Coach Bob Pagel begins at 12:45pm.  After their home opener on the road Carelton will have three consecutive home games.  Knox College visits for a non-conference tilt on September 13 before the MIAC Conference opener with Augsburg followed by defending conference champion Bethel, then off to Gustavus and Concordia in Moorhead before the Homecoming game against St. Olaf on Oct. 18.  The Knights close out the season at St. Johns then have their bye week before hosting St. Thomas and finishing the regular season at Hamline on November 15.
