The Awesome Blossoms were just that, awesome on the glass in a 42-33 win over the Knights in what I call the Blossoms' Garden in Blooming Prairie.

Kenyon-Wanamingo lost their leading scorer, junior Mara Quam, early in the game and the Knights surely missed her on the floor.

She told me after the game she rolled her ankle pretty good after executing one of her contorted moves to the basket for a layup. The layup was not good and Quam was in pain under the basket.

Anybody who has rolled an ankle knows what that feels like.

Quam averages about 28 points a game, so it was a blow to their offense in particular.

Give the Awesome Blossoms credit, they really went to the glass hard to dominate in that department.

Their offensive rebounding was impressive and Blooming Prairie was 11 of 14 from the free throw line.

I had the Knights with 15 turnovers and Blooming Prairie with 13, but the Awesome Blossoms scored 11 points off turnovers and the Knights had five.

Kenyon-Wanamingo was also 4 of 11 from the free throw line, another area where they missed Quam.

Like all great scorers, Mara Quam gets to the free throw line and usually cashes in.

The only player to score in double figures was Blooming Prairie's 5-foot-5 senior Lauren Larkoski with 12. Eight of those came in the black paint in the Garden.

Blooming Prairie's bench was very productive in the win that snapped a two-game losing streak for the Awesome Blossoms and Kenyon-Wanamingo's five-game winning streak.

Bench points were 14 for Blooming Prairie and nine for Kenyon-Wanamingo.

The Knights are now 10-5 and the Awesome Blossoms 10-4 on the season

Blooming Prairie travels to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Friday night and sees Tri-City United come to the Garden on Saturday at 5PM.

Kenyon-Wanamingo is at Lake City on Friday night.

The Blooming Prairie boys avenged an earlier season loss Thursday night when they defeated Kenyon-Wanamingo in the Kenyon Castle 55-49.
