When Faribault Mayor John Jasinski was on AM Minnesota New Year's Eve day he touched on improvements to Bell Field being part of the 2017 budget.

Director of Parks and Recreation Paul Penansky will give us a few more details on today's program at 9:30AM.

Penansky says handicap accessibility is driving these improvements.

I spoke recently with some members of the Faribault Baseball Association and they want to put in a bid to host the State Amateur Baseball Tournament in the near future.

The Minnesota Baseball Association Board of Directors would tour the park and tell Faribault what improvements would have to be made in order to host the tournament, which hasn't been in Faribault since 1978. Faribault also hosted the tournament in 1951.

Faribault Baseball Association board members told me Owatonna has agreed to co-host the tournament. Owatonna hosted the tournament in 1942 and '43, and again in 1946.

The tournament was held at one site because it was one class until 1981.

St. Cloud has been a host or co-host 14 times.
