I took this picture of one of my bean fields on Sunday July5th. After being gone for a week I was anxious to get out to the farm and see the crops. I was very pleased with the beans. We have been fortunate that the really heavy rains have missed  us so we do not have drowned out spots in the field. Right on schedule the beans were beginning to flower.

I was also very pleased with the herbicide performance. Since 1996 all I used on my beans was post emergenance Round-Up or a generic glyphosate. That was not controlling weeds like it used to so I modified my herbicide program this year. As the beans were emerging I applied glyphosate and Dual II Magnum. The glyphosate killed the small emerging weeds and the Dual II gave me residual control to prevent weeds from growing. Than about July 23rd I used Flexstar GT. It did turn the beans brown for a while or as farmers say "burned" them but they recovered. So far so good but there is a lot of growing season left before the beans "are in the bin."
