The Rice County Forestry Committee again this year purchased tree seedlings to give away on Friday, Arbor Day. The Rice County Forestry Committee owns a tree planter that they rent to landowners to plant trees. The money is used to repair, maintain and replace the tree planter. For a number of years they have had a surplus in the account so they use some of the money to purchase tree seedlings to give away on Arbor Day.

This Friday you can pick up tree seedlings to plant on Arbor Day at sponsor locations including: The Lonsdale Feed Mill in Lonsdale, Wholesale Tire in Morristown, Wholesale Tire in Faribault and at Professional Pride Realty in Northfield. The Rice County Master Gardeners will be at these locations this Friday from 3:30-5:30PM to give tree seedlings away to people who will plant them.

The Rice County Master Gardeners will also be able to give you instructions on how to plant and care for your trees. Species available this year include white pine, white spruce, white cedar, tamarack, butternut, bur oak, red maple, wild plum and nannyberry. In addition, pollinator packets will be available to provide habitat for bees and other pollinators.
