AM Minnesota Talks Turkey on Wednesday

Most people say Thursday is Thanksgiving, but I call it National Turkey Day. On Wednesday's AM Minnesota, Steve Olson will be my guest. Olson is the executive director of the Minnesota Turkey Growers. It is a tradition that close to Thanksgiving I have Olson on the program to talk about the turkey industry in Minnesota. By the way, Minnesota ranks No. 1 in turkey production in the United States. The industry contributes a lot to our local economy with jobs and economic activity.

Last March there was a time when I was not sure there would be turkeys available for Thanksgiving because of the highly pathogenic avian influenza that was spreading like wildfire across Minnesota and some other states. Other topics we will cover include tips on preparing your turkey for Thanksgiving, what to do with leftovers, how farmers take care of turkeys, animal health products used and many others.
