Tom Hoverstad who is a scientist at the Southern Research and Outreach Center at Waseca was my guest on today's AM Minnesota program. We got Tom's thoughts on the growing season, weather, crop maturity with all the cool weather and just how good our crop might be. We are at the time of the season when you can count bean pods and kernels of corn on the air. However, we still do not know how the crop will finish and when we will see the first killing frost.

We also discussed weed control, specifically waterhemp and giant rag weed. In the last month I have driven from Faribault to the Dakota County Fair in Farmington, Farmfest in Red Wood Falls, Goodhue County Fair in Zumbrota and out to the farm by Wells. I have seen some weed free bean fields, some with a few weeds and others with a lot of waterhemp. Last weekend I also drove from Faribault to Indianapolis and saw the same thing. If you missed the program later today it will be posted on our web site kdhlradio.com.
