John Dvorak, secretary of the Rice County Fair, will be my guest on today's AM Minnesota program. I always enjoy talking about the Rice County Fair. It seems like the fair board always comes up with something new to get more people involved. For example, I saw on the Rice County Fair website they have added a Quilt Block Contest. My grandmother made a quilt for me that I still have as something special to remember her. I don't know much about quilting, but it is an art that hopefully is being passed on to younger generations.

There is something special about a county fair. It is like a family reunion. There are some people who I see only once a year at a county fair. To have a successful fair it takes a lot of volunteers and support from the area. The weather cooperating helps, too! By the way, I am one of the official judges again this year for the Apple Pie Contest. I don't get paid for it other than sampling  a lot of great apple pies.
