Edward Usset, who is a grain marketing specialist with the University of Minnesota Center for Farm Financial Management, will be my guest on AM Minnesota on Thursday. Usset just released the second edition of the book Grain Marketing is Simple (it's just not easy). This is a companion book to Winning The Game workshops and Commodity Challenge. Usset travels all around Minnesota leading workshops on marketing and teaches marketing classes at the University of Minnesota. In addition, he develops and posts on his web site pre- and post-harvest marketing plans.

I have known Usset for quite a while and always enjoy talking markets with him. He uses "plain English" and tries to keep marketing plans simple. During the years of high prices, the best marketing plan was not doing anything and just selling the crop after you harvested it. That is not the case now with low prices and negative cash flow projections growing corn and soybeans. By the way, Usset sent me two copies of his new book. Sorry, I am going to keep one but the other we will give away on AM Minnesota on Thursday morning during the program from 9:30-10AM.
