The Rice County Fair will be the topic on today's AM Minnesota program. John Dvorak, the Rice County Fair manager, will be stopping by KDHL studios to discuss everything that goes into putting on a great fair. Many do not understand or appreciate all the planning and organization that goes into a county fair. Getting all the bands, shows, grandstand events, exhibitors and food vendors lined up takes a lot of time. Many of these things need to be booked a year in advance and sometimes more!

While Dvorak does get a small salary for managing the fair, it is really the volunteers who make county fairs special. Many people have areas of interest or expertise that all do their part. We are fortunate in Rice County that we have so many volunteers that help with the fair in addition to support from the Rice County Commissioners. I believe that the fairgrounds are owned by Rice County, and the county does provide some money for repair and upkeep the fairgrounds.
