Many of you know that I participate with friends in Rendezvous historic camps. We are portraying the fur trade era of the 19th century. In the photo that's me on the left andf my Friend Ericke, with my son Adam off on the far right in the blue. I just got back on Sunday night from one of our favorite events, The Big Muddy River Rendezvous in Winona, MN. It's held at the Prairie Island Campground on the river. This is typically our last event of the season. It takes a lot of work and money to put this event on. Campers pay their camp fees which goes towards the camp ground and the event.  School kids come in 4 days during the week to learn about this wonderful period in history and demonstrators in character, talk about what "they" did during this time. The schools provide money to the event to be able to come and the demonstrators are paid for what they do because it takes a lot of energy and effort. Some schools are facing budget cuts and will not be able to come next year. And costs for many things the event needs have gone up.

So after 21 years this event has to end.  But us fur traders or skinners as we are called are a tough breed.  We love the site and event so much we are all planning to meet at the same site next near and camp on our own and play games, sing songs and have fun just on our own not an official event.  A new beginning.

And speaking of new things beginning, the Football playoff season begins tonight. 'll be at Bruce Smith field on Power 96 with B.A. Taking on Southland. We'll start about 6:45.

Gordy will be on KDHL at 6:45 as Kenyon Wanamingo is at Waterville Elysian Morristown.
