The Faribault Falcons used a sophomore goalie making his first career varsity start Tuesday night and fell to Albert Lea 9-1 in opening round Section 1A action.

Austin Beytein has not been playing goalie very long and turned in a very good first period. He had 16 saves and Faribault trailed 1-0 with Albert Lea scoring a power play goal with 96 seconds to go in the period.

The wheels kind of came off the track in the second period, with Albert Lea scoring seven goals to lead 8-0 after two periods. There was running time in the third period.

Faribault's lone goal was scored by junior Brett Kelly with just over five minutes to go in the contest.

The Tigers outshot the Falcons 47-15 and totally dominated the puck, meaning Beytein did not get much of an opportunity to relax.

The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak with the win and are 9-17. Faribault ends their season 6-19-1.

Albert Lea travels to No. 2 seed Mankato West on Thursday at 7:30PM.

Here are the rest of the Section 1A boys hockey tournament results.
