For the fourth year in a row, I traveled with KDHL Farm Director Jerry Groskruetz to the National FFA Convention. This was my fourth time attending for work, my first time being in Indianapolis, Indiana. The previous three times I attended, the convention was held in Louisville, Kentucky. The students are there to compete, partake in the national band or choir, learn more about agriculture, and get fired up from the speakers, but when they get a break, there are more opportunities for FFA members to explore!

Many of the schools use the trip down as a chance to make a few educational stops, and several of the students we spoke with had visited a farm where they were able to sample fresh ice cream. Other students were excited to "kiss the bricks" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and virtually all of the students were talking about the annual rodeo and concerts. For FFA members that are beginning to think about career options or selecting an educational path, there is a large College Fair with information on a variety of careers that would be a good fit for someone with an agricultural interest. There is also a large business expo with interactive displays, and ways for the kids to relax and meet people from other chapters. I made a quick spin through and snapped a few pictures.
