Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ TV Series: Hayley Atwell Says First Season to Last Eight Episodes?

Subscribe to KDHL Radio on

We were reasonably surprised when Marvel followed through on the potential for an ‘Agent Carter‘ TV series, though less so that it would air in between ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”s second season, rather than alongside it. Now, series star Hayley Atwell has revealed in a new interview that the first season will unfold across eight episodes in total.

When asked in a recent Marvel red carpet interview what she wanted to see for the Peggy Carter character over the course of the series, Atwell responded “I think over the arc of the eight episodes, there will be very different facets to who she is, which won’t disappoint the fans.” Previously it had been thought that ‘Agent Carter’ might extend to the same 13-episode length as ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,’ while we’ve also heard producers projecting each season to visit a solitary year in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s development.

The series will be executive produced by ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ writers Christopher Markus and Steve McFeely, who also wrote the pilot, along with ‘Reaper’ creators/showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Marvel Studios film producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jeph Loeb will also act as producers.

Here’s how Marvel describes ‘Agent Carter’:

Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter,’ starring Captain America’s Hayley Atwell follows the story of Peggy Carter. It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ along with the short ‘Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter.’

We won’t know just yet when to expect an actual premiere (or trailer, considering the pilot hasn’t yet filmed), but what say you? Would ‘Agent Carter’ be better served as only eight episodes per season? Watch the interview above, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
