On Tuesday, Bart Jackson, Brent Fuchs and I made a visit to the Divine Mercy third-grade class in Faribault. We also made visits to third-grade classes at Roosevelt and  Lincoln Elementary schools in Faribault along with the Stem School in Faribault. Many children growing up today are two or three generations removed from agriculture. Many have no understanding of how their food ends up at the grocery store. Most have never even been on a farm. Members of the Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness committee decided to adopt the third-grade classes in Faribault. In a small way we are educating third-graders about agriculture.

Members of the Faribault Chamber of Commerce Agribusiness committee reached out to more than 400 third-graders in Faribault. We bring into the classroom items from the grocery store that the third-graders will recognize. We point out that they all have corn or soybeans in them. We also have pictures of tractors, combines, livestock, corn and soybeans growing to show the students how their food is produced. It is fun to go and talk with the children. They are always well behaved and polite. I would also like thank the Faribault elementary schools for allowing us to come into the schools.
