Doug Limerick, who has been a morning newscaster of the ABC News that KDHL has carried for many years, signed off Friday morning after 33 years and more than 100,000 newscasts.

According to ABC News and Radio World, he began his career in radio at age 16, (he is now 71, you do the math) at a small station in Shelby, N.C., as a DJ. He then went on to college at Wake Forest, before going into the army to be a Russian linguist.

He started working for ABC News in 1982. In addition to his daily newscasts, he has had a daily feature called "Doug's Limerick" and he was a regular fill-in for the late Paul Harvey.

Limerick lives with his wife, Robin, who is credited for supporting his career. They have three grown daughters, three grandsons and a granddaughter on the way.

Cheri Preston, who has been handling the midday duties, will start doing the mornings in January.
