Whether it's to raise money for a local sports team or for county-wide bragging rights, a number of great golf tournaments are on the summer calendar in Owatonna. So break out your clubs and keep your eyes peeled for gophers.

    38th Young Life Golf Tournament

    The annual Owatonna Young Life golf tournament is June 18 at Brooktree Golf Course. It is a four-person scramble. The cost is $125 for adults and $75 for students. It's BYOC (bring your own cake).

    The two-day Joseph R. Shea Invitational July 7-9 is a "can't miss" event, according to the Owatonna Country Club website.

    15th Ken Bey Football Classic

    The 15th Ken Bey Football Classic is open to Owatonna football friends and alumni. It is named after longtime assistant coach Ken Bey and proceeds benefit OHS football. The tournament is July 9 at Brooktree with an 11AM shotgun start. You are encouraged to get your registration in by June 1 as the tournament usually fills up. The entry fee is $85.     Third Annual Owatonna Girls Basketball Scramble

    This four-person scramble is a fun event and you might even see me. I'll be the one looking in the trees for a ball. The event supports Huskies girls basketball. It will be Saturday, July 30, at Brooktree with 9AM registration and 10AM shotgun start. The $65 entry fee includes golf, food, prizes and fun. There is also a silent auction.     Owatonna City Open

    The long-running Owatonna City Open allows golfers to test their skill on both the Owatonna Country Club course and Brooktree Golf Course. It is open to anyone who lives or works in Steele County and is 18 or older. The two-day, two-round event is August 6 and 7. The Jim Birdsall Junior Open is August 4 and 5.
